Beginning this summer, stranded motorists in South Florida will no longer find aid from the Florida Road Rangers. The service, which provides free highway assistance to motorists along Interstate 95 from Palm Beach County to Miami, has been axed after Florida's legislature cut the entire program's funding from next year's budget. "I just feel bad for the motorists because they're going to be waiting for a long time," Road Ranger Gilbert Hernandez told WPBF News 25... cont...

Lawmakers who are trimming the state's budget are considering cutting the Road Rangers program. Road Rangers provide free highway assistance during accidents and help stranded drivers. The mural was painted by local artist Serge Touisant, who was contracted by the Florida Department of Transportation and Liberty City to spruce up the underpass with his artistry... cont...
    > Unlicensed driver charged after I-595 rollover ... March 30/08
An unlicensed driver who allowed six children to ride in the back of his pickup truck was in jail on Sunday on a slew of child abuse and traffic charges after he crashed the vehicle on Interstate 595, Florida Highway Patrol said. Romero Martinez, 34, loaded his 1989 Toyota pick-up with the children, ages 4 to 13, and got on the highway Saturday, said FHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky. At about 7:30 p.m., as Martinez drove eastbound on the highway near Hiatus Road, he tried to switch from the far left lane into the center lane, Wysocky said. He sideswiped a 1994 Dodge van next to him and swerved back into the left lane. Martinez lost control. The pickup truck slid into the paved median separating the eastbound and westbound lanes, and struck a guardrail, Wysocky said. The truck then overturned, ejecting the children as it rolled.... cont...
